Please read these terms carefully. By creating an account or using Alterus, you agree to be bound by them. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Alterus ("Service"), operated by Alterus, Inc. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. The Service
Alterus is a personal AI productivity platform that generates communication drafts (emails, messages, documents) in your voice, based on context from your connected accounts. The Service operates on a human-in-the-loop model: AI-generated content is always presented to you for approval before delivery.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time, with reasonable notice where feasible.
3. Accounts
You must create an account to use Alterus. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete registration information
- Keep your password secure and confidential
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account
- Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Accounts may not be transferred without our written consent.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Send unsolicited commercial communications (spam) or harass any individual
- Impersonate another person in a deceptive or harmful manner
- Generate communications intended to deceive, defraud, or manipulate recipients unlawfully
- Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the Service's underlying models or data
- Use the Service for any purpose that poses a safety or security risk
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these provisions without prior notice.
5. Subscriptions and Billing
Plans. Alterus offers tiered subscription plans (Personal, Professional, Enterprise) with features and pricing as described on our website. Pricing is subject to change with 30 days' notice.
Billing cycle. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance. You authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until cancellation.
Cancellation. You may cancel at any time. Your access continues through the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial periods, except where required by applicable law.
Free/Beta access. During our beta period, access may be provided at no charge. We may convert beta access to paid subscriptions with at least 14 days' notice.
Taxes. Prices are exclusive of applicable taxes. You are responsible for any sales, use, or VAT taxes applicable to your subscription.
6. Your Content
You retain ownership of all content you submit to or generate through Alterus, including emails, documents, and communication drafts ("Your Content"). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process Your Content solely as necessary to provide and operate the Service.
You represent that you have the rights necessary to grant this license and that Your Content does not violate applicable law or third-party rights.
7. Intellectual Property
The Alterus platform, including its software, design, and underlying models, is owned by Alterus, Inc. and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or brand elements.
We do not claim ownership over AI-generated drafts produced for you; those are considered yours subject to Section 8 below.
8. AI-Generated Content
Alterus uses artificial intelligence to generate communication drafts. You acknowledge that:
- AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or unintended phrasing
- You are solely responsible for reviewing and approving all content before it is sent
- Alterus is a drafting assistant, not a substitute for your own judgment or professional advice
- We are not liable for any consequences arising from content you choose to send
We recommend reviewing all drafts before approval, particularly for sensitive, legal, or high-stakes communications.
9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to our data practices as described therein.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALTERUS, INC. AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
12. Termination
You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or at our discretion with 30 days' notice (except for material violations, where termination may be immediate).
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases and we will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for IP infringement or data security issues.
You waive any right to participate in a class-action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 14 days' notice before material changes take effect, via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
